The burdens and storms of life can feel overwhelming and exhausting
We can find a way through with compassion and release some of the heaviness that makes the journey harder
My name is Julie Brenneise and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). I work to build a safe, supportive, and enjoyable therapeutic space where we work and laugh together to help you find your way through the challenges of life and to release burdens of the past.
I am trained in art, play, sandtray therapy, and Internal Family Systems therapy. I have both seen and experienced the power of healing through the use of creativity, joy, symbols, and parts work. I bring compassion, caring, and curiosity to the exploration of your experiences, challenges, and strengths as we move together towards your goals.
I am steadfastly LGBTQ+ affirming and work hard to be anti-racist. I believe being social justice oriented is a part of being therapist. I work to decolonize my therapeutic approaches so that I am supporting and not further marginalizing anyone with oppressed identities.
I most love supporting folks ages 3+ who are struggling with challenges related to Autism, ADHD, Pathological Demand Avoidance//Pervasive Drive for Autonomy, and Sensory Processing Disorder. My approach includes:
assessing and exploring tools for managing sensory dysregulation which can feel like anxiety but can’t be addressed by therapies that work for other kinds of anxiety
processing and getting support for difficult experiences like rejection sensitivity, rigidity, burnout, extreme demand avoidance, and the traumas of being neurodivergent in a world built for neuronormative nervous systems
collaborative problem solving challenges related to focus, motivation, and impulsivity to find solutions that actually work long term
identifying each individual’s unique struggles AND strengths to help build a positive and holistic neurodivergent identity
I love working with kids ages 3-12 in person in my office using art, play, and sandtray therapies. With the toys and art they invite me into their world to see their struggles and help the process. During monthly caregiver sessions I provide assessment and support based on specialized training and years of experience as a child therapist.
I love supporting teens age 13-18 using art and sandtray therapies to help them explore who they are, who they want to be and what kind of life they want to build for themselves. Teens often need adults who aren’t their parents that can listen and support them in building their growing independence. In person or teletherapy.
I love working with adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, and trauma. Together we use curiosity and compassion to explore the inner world and get to know how these parts of them are trying to help but are stuck. Rebalancing the internal system of parts can help adults feel more confident, connected, and centered. In person or teletherapy.
I enjoy supporting folks in consultation or therapy group settings which can help increase a sense of connection and be a more affordable option than individual consultation or therapy.
Monthly ND/PDA Consultation Group: $5-30
I provide consultation to parents, colleagues, schools, and more about a variety of topics: Pathological Demand Avoidance//Pervasive Drive for Autonomy, neurodivergence affirming educational, therapeutic, and parenting approaches, and more.
